Parenting: The Challenge

The best thing you can do for a long car ride is to be prepared. If you have a very small child or baby do the bulk of your driving when they should be sleeping. Make sure they are fed, have a clean diaper and are wearing comfortable clothes. It may be helpful if someone can sit in the back seat with them if you must drive while they are awake to entertain them. With older children have books on hand if it doesn’t make them car sick to read.  Sing songs and play car games to keep their interest so that they don’t get bored and whiney. If you have the time stop at points of interest along the way. A road trip can be a fun family event as long as you prepare for it.
