Body Image and Fathers

In this culture girls particularly are exposed to TV, magazines, the internet and movies which portray an almost impossible body image as the one that every girl is supposed to have. Young girls are being treated for eating disorders and when polled more than 40 percent of girls in the primary grades wished that they were thinner, according to the Seattle-based National Association of Eating Disorders. Parents and especially fathers can have a healthy influence on accepting their daughters just the way they are. Parents who spend time with their children and let them know they enjoy just being with them can help focus their attention on more positive endeavors than fashion magazines.
