Alternatives to Saying "No" to Your Child
September 22nd, 2008 by admin
It’s easy to quickly say "no" when your child does something you don’t want them to, or to keep them from something dangerous. Many children will respond with defiance or begin saying "no" to you! Put a positive spin on your requests letting them know what they can do instead. If they are yelling kindly ask them to use a "kind voice" when speaking to people. If they are throwing a ball in the house ask them to please play with the ball outside. Sometimes you’ll have to say "no" but when you do say it firmly and calmly with conviction. When they respond appropriately give them a hug or a smile and let them know they did a good job.
